Looking for new computer speakers

silk186

I bought a JBL Xtreme 2 so that I could use it in quarantine while entering China. It stopped charging and replacing the power adapter didn't fix the issue... so I'm looking for a replacement. I had a toddler and a puppy so I don't want a sub on the floor. I'm looking for a solid pair of 2.0 studio monitors. They need to be small enough to fit on my desk or either side of my monitor but still sound good. They are primarily used for YouTube and gaming and my PC is in my living room which has a set of Edifier A300 Airpulse for movies and music. I'm more than happy with Chinese brands and will be ordering online from Taobao or JD.

  • Edifier MR4 - ¥489.00
  • Edifier S880 - ¥880
  • Edifier A100 - ¥3200.00 (too expensive)
  • Mackie CR3-X w/o BT ¥750
  • PRESONUS Eris E3.5 ¥750
  • Audioengine A2+ ¥2100 (the speakers I used to want)

Gigabyte Aorus 15G :: i7-10870H CPU :: 3080 :: DDR4 3200 2x16GB :: 1TB + 2TB SSD :: Gigabyte M32Q :: Edifier MR4

Honestly, any of the powered studio monitors are a good call.  How small do you need?  The 3" are really tiny relatively, and the 5" negate the need for a subwoofer IMO.

Edifier would be my call  if you already have and enjoy their other products.

I bought Mackie CR5X's for £200, so some 1.8k yuan, can recommend. Half the price of your too expensive one and speakers big enough that I could even go without a subwoofer. I will spend £200 on the separate sub regardless in the future, can't wait.

I would have considered those if I wasn't in China as they are commonly recommended. Only a single seller in China and 1600-1800 w/wo BT.

My computer is next to my TV, which has a set of Edifier A300 airpulse which I use for music. I just need something that doesn't hurt my ears (laptop and monitor speakers) or take up half my desk.

1800 is what I paid for mine, also without BT. BT is usually a 450 extra.

How much are the Mackie 3"?  The CR3-X? They're $88 USD for us.

These are the prices I found on Taobao and JD searching tonight. I tried checking other brands but it seems the Edifier and PRESONUS Eris are what sell here.

Mackie has a single seller on taobao and audiogene doesn't have anything in my price range.

Edifier and PreSonus are basically the same thing.  You may get a different sound (warmer, etc) but quality is similar.

Personally I would opt for any of them.

Interesting, I'm not used to finding reviews comparing Edifier products but I found a few with the MR4 take the lead, and given the price difference it's an easy choice. Thanks
