Not impressed with my performance in Spider-Man Remastered PC

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor

GPU: MSI - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB VENTUS 3X OC 12GB DDR6X

Ram: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600

PSU: Corsair RM (2019) 850 W Fully Modular

Storage: WD_BLACK SN750 1 TB M.2-2280 NVM

I have the game on its highest settings possible except for Ray Tracing, I have it on "high" instead of "very high" and turned down the slider to "3" I believe. Don't get me wrong, the game runs and is mostly playable, I get around 90-110 fps, however, it suffers from crazy frame drops in open world, and often see it go down to 70-80 fps and sometimes 60 fps if depending on what's going on.

When it's raining hard in open world, the game seriously chugs and goes down to 50~ fps and it drives me nuts. I know the game is specced to work great with an RTX 3080, so I figured an RTX 4070 would be perfectly fine. I'm not playing with DLSS 3 because I don't know what settings to use to make it work right as I get pretty bad ghosting whenever I use it.

Any advice?

I would say CPU bottleneck, the game with RT on is very CPU intensive.

Your setup is pretty close to mine, 12400 and 6800XT, performance is very close with yours, and even with my 6800XT, I am CPU bottlenecked when RT is on. 4070 is faster in RT than 6800 XT but your 10900K is about the same as my 12400.

Try checking your CPU and GPU usage while playing, with Afterburner and not task manager.

Hello, thanks for responding.

Here is what I'm getting right now on Afterburner assuming I'm looking at the right thing.

I would suggest you turn on the Afterburner OSD settings for CPU usage and GPU usage, pay attention to the both while playing.

Target is to always have the GPU usage at constant >95%, if as you said there are dips to 60s, during that dip your GPU usage should drop while your CPU is still about the same or higher than usual.

If that is the case, then it is confirmed that you are CPU bottlenecked.

Turn vsync on, since your pc is obviously unable to maintain the framerate you want it will be a more smooth experience that way.

btw what is your monitor refresh rate?

it doesn't suck compared to a unstable framerate which makes  every game literally unplayable,  no.

Hey,

I will try Vsync and see what happens. Currently, I'm playing with RT off and the game is admittedly a lot better.

My refresh rate is 240hz.

i see, yeah, sounds you just had to tweak settings a bit.

RT is very gpu heavy,  in many cases not worth it.
