What CPU cooler for a Ryzen 5 7600X

Hello, 

 

I am building an AM5 system and was wondering what cpu cooler would be best for the 7600X without going overkill but also future proofing in case I get a more powerful CPU in the future.

I am mostly interested in Air coolers but am also open to AIOs if the price is right. I am thinking of getting Starfield so I don't want to limit performance by using a crappy cooler but I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

The only future proof cooler is Noctua with the free mounting brackets for future sockets.

Best bang for your buck air cooler, bar none, is the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. It will be quite overkill for a 7600X, probably, but if you want to be able to reuse it for an upgrade...

 

Don't pay Noctua tax. 

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

It warms my cockles to see many people recommending Thermalright again.

Are you going to undervolt?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.
