Max refresh rate on Asus Geforce GTX 750 Ti

lheiler

So I been gaming on my 750ti for a couple of years now and fortunately my favourite games are quite harmless when it comes to computing power needed (LOL, CSGO, etc). So recently I bought a nice display capable of doing 144+ Hz, because its also for my laptop that is able to make use of it. However, after a bit of research there is no reason why my 750ti shouldn't be able to make use of it, at least in 1080p. The hdmi is 1.4, and according to the internet it should support 120+hz on 1080p and during gaming it shows, that my gpu could deliver up to 180 fps in certain games. The only problem is that nowhere in the settings or the driver im able to select more than 60 hz (In the driver i managed to get 100hz on custom resolution, but it feels kinda wrong to do it this way). Does anyone have an idea what the reason for the low fps output could be?

What’s your monitor capable of putting out?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

So it's the LG Ultra Gear 38GN950-B. I think its 144 hz normal but with overclocking i think it can reach 160hz. And its resolution is 3840 x 1600 but i chose 1080p as output of my 750ti.

I think your monitor may not support over 60Hz in HDMI mode.

You may have to get a DisplayPort cable.

A $1000 monitor at 1080p on a 750Ti ?? Man that's hilarious 😄

1080p as in 1920 × 1080? If you're using 2560 × 1080 then 100 Hz will be about the limit for a 340 MHz HDMI output like on the 750 Ti.

Fist off, 750ti is the GOAT

This is likely due to the monitors expected requirements, it may not handle high refresh rates over HDMI for whatever reason, some higher end monitors are just like that, it expects DisplayPort for the higher refresh rate.
It may also be that you’re kinda just at the on paper limit of the 750ti and it’s hdmi standard and its limitations as well. There’s a bunch of people online with a similar issue where the hdmi output isn’t managing high refresh rates for whatever reason even if both ends of it support it.

That GPU anyway don't have power to run almsot anything above 60 FPS except decade old games. 120 Hz, 144 Hz and etc is not matter if your GPU can't run that FPS.

As i mentioned, in Lol and certain other games you max out at around 180 fps with the settings i have, so i don't think that is the issue.

Maybe thats the reason, but my laptop achieves 75 fps over the normal hdmi port, however do you think if i get an hdmi to display port cable, its gonna fix the problem? Also i appreciate you sticking up for my beloved 750 ti, its really not the greatest on paper but surprisingly reliable and for simple games still enough in 1080p.

To my surprise the 750ti doesn't even have a display port. 😁

I couldn’t say for certain, potentially if it’s the monitors side causing the issue.

I would also try regular old DVI, the 750ti has dual link DVI output and on paper that can do 1920x1080 144hz, dvi standards are a lot more forgiving if your monitor has dvi input

Looks like it's the monitor. See if HDMI compatibility mode is on and if you can get display with it off.
