i need it for everything use and gaming. i need at least 2tbs but like to add more later on as well. i also need it to run my router my switch and my dns. i need the storge for like my family's phones backups and games. also network booting.

I'd generally suggest again running a router on the same box as it just makes it much more of a hassle when the network goes down. I'd get seperate network equement

But you can get a mini PC, but a 2TB ssd in it, put a hypervisor on it like proxmox, and setup vms for the different tasks.

Don’t do this until you have a lot of experience with this stuff. Until you can answer these questions on your own from your own experience, don’t try and run your router on the same box as your NAS. Router should be running on bare metal until you have more experience, and you should never run a switch on anything except a switch unless you have extremely specific reasons to do so.

what as a good starting server that it can buy for DNS and Storge? also maybe Minecraft server as well.

An old office PC with a couple big hard drives in it is a great platform to start with.

If you're in the US and you don't mind a tower taking up space, you can get an HP z440 workstation off eBay for about $100. Those can take full LGA2011-3 Xeon CPUs and very inexpensive server RAM.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
