Did I buy the wrong RAM for my MB?

Go to solution Solved by Vadizap,

I made a mistake, I was looking at the link for the B650M MB, but I have the B650 non M.

That board does not list ANY compatible memory on the support page, so it's whatever I guess 😛

I recently built a new PC, thanks to a lot of advice I received here on the forum.

Here are the specs for anyone curious: https://at.pcpartpicker.com/list/83bv6D

I've run into what appears to be a pretty wide spread issue with the 7900 XTX card, which are driver timeouts when gaming.

They are reported as "Display driver amdwddmg stopped responding and has successfully recovered." in event viewer.

I don't think the root cause was ever really found, or maybe it can have many reasons.

But one thing that keeps popping up is that the problem is somehow caused by the system memory.

I bought this exact version of the RAM: ‎CMK32GX5M2B6000C36 (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0B15DC288?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details9

But now I've realized that there are multiple versions that look the same to me, and there is this one too: ‎CMK32GX5M2D6000C36 (https://www.amazon.de/Corsair-VENGEANCE-Kompatibel-Computer-Speicher/dp/B0B15DST2L/ref=psdc_430178031_t2_B0B15DC288?language=de_DE)

My motherboard Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX rev. 1.0 does not have the exact RAM version I bought in its list of supported modules. (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B650M-AORUS-ELITE-AX-rev-10-11/support#support-memsup)

It does however list ‎CMK32GX5M2D6000C36

QUESTION: how big of an issue do you think this would be? Meaning that Gigabyte does not list my exact part number as supported for this MB? I don't see the difference between the two modules to be honest.

And any insight in the driver timeouts would of course be appreciated of course, but I don't expect more than what I found in many different discussions through google.

Tks!

I have not once in my life or in dozens of different PC builds from all generations of hardware, looked at a memory QVL page.

It does not matter, it’s non ecc DDR5 DIMMs, they’ll work fine.

I don't think memory would be the issue here unless it's faulty (run a memtest overnight https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/how-to-test-ram). The manufacurers usually list a few components that they have tested themselves or some of their partners did, but if the device is compatible with the standard on paper it should work. (goes for all devices like pcie cards, ram modules, sata, etc.)

If you have a friend with a compatible PC swap the memory and GPU one by one to see if you can repeat the problem.

If you're constantly getting the display driver error than it might be the GPU / the driver. Uninstall the drivers and do it all over again. If it's a new build and it doesn't solve anything I might do a completly fresh installation of the OS if the driver reinstall didn't work.

CPU: 2x Xeon E5 2670 Motherboard: ASRock EP2C602-4L/D16,  RAM: 64GB of 1333 MHz mermory from Samsung (ECC),  GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070,  Case: NZXT Switch 810, Storage: Samsug EVO 250GB and 500GB, 3x3 TB and 1x1TB  HDD  PSU: Corsair RM 850,  Mouse: Logitech MX Master 2s,  Headset: Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO black edition (80 ohm), OS: UnRaid with two VMs and Plex
