Been looking for a good two-player LAN game (split-screen sucks) I can play with my brother.  Other than connecting an Ethernet cable from his computer to my router, is there much else involved in setting up LAN games?  My computer is wired to the router already.

My PC specifications are in my profile.

download gameranger, download(buy) and play any game from that list. you can make a private lobby and you don't need to be connected to the same network

I usually play nfs ug2, or AoE 2

I have AoE III through Steam.  Is GameRanger just a network of private servers you can connect to, or do you buy games through it like Steam?

not really... GameRanger is a program that "helps" you to make private game rooms, to play with your friends

to play a specific game with your friends, using GameRanger, you need to browse for the executable of the game(before make sure that the game is supported)

To be honest, I used gameranger to play old games that don't have official multiplayer servers so if you want to play that kind of games go for it

Diablo games can have up to 4 players via LAN. I remember playing D2 with my friends and having a great time.
