Yo guys!

about to build a new system for 1440p (old system is r5 3600 and 1660 super) and I’m stuck because idk if I should build a futureproof system with a r5 7600 and Radeon 6700x that supports ddr5… or if I should ball out with ddr4 and go for a 6800 xt with a r5 5600?? Like would the ddr4 system retain value if I sold it in a couple years? Or should I futureproof it with the ddr5?

it is necessary when the platform you're using requires it.

I could not have said it better myself.
Future proofing tech is a fools errand anyway, the only thing that actually makes sense is putting conduit in your walls to pull your cables through. Other than that? Buy what you need now and worry about the future when you get there

I will find your Laptop thread and I will recommend an ITX build instead

Sure would be neat if there was something useful here, eh?

AM4 is already dead-ended.  Nothing else is coming out for it.  If you're super budget constrained, it can still be worthwhile tho.

AM5 Requires DDR5.  Period.

If you go Intel:  12th/13th gen have the option of DDR4 or 5, depending on the mobo you buy, so you can choose there.  (14th gen should also be on the same platform, since the next architecture update won't be until 15th gen, and 14th is just a 13th gen refresh.)
