Are you able to stop the fan to see if that's the cause? It could be a bad bearing, but really it sounds like coil whine also. Hard to determine where the problem is without stopping the fan. You can use an external fan to blow air on the unit during the fan pause. You could also open it and unplug the fan and test it, while using an external fan.

Never open a psu even in a case like that, you have a decent chancge of getting grilled with a few hundred watts and volts if you touch anything in there. Stick a screw driver or short nail between the blades and NOT FURTHER THEN THE FANS DEPTH and put a fan on top. if its the fan, good luck getting it out there with out dieing.

Well then its some sort of coilwhining, wich is unfixable with out soldering, and soldering coils on there will pretty much kill you. yes, i don't like people opening high voltage stuff.

That is without a doubt, Coilwhine.  PSU's, GPU's, Motherboards and even Monitors can have coilwhine. It is NOT dangerous to the component and does not affect the lifespan of the component.  Its just basic power going through a transistor making the coils vibrate.
Nothing bad or wrong is going on with this powersupply in regards to that sound you are hearing.
Even my RM750i has slight coil whine if I put my ear next to it, even on idle.

Definitely seems like it is coil whine. There won't be much you can do, practically speaking. If the device is under warranty, you can start an RMA with Corsair. But be warned you may get a refurbished product as a replacement unit, and you won't know if it has other issues. Coil whine SUCKS.

I think it's just annoying to his ears. I had a GPU with coil whine and the frequency would change all the time depending on the load. So it can be a frustrating situation for sure. Headphones are the only solution lol

How are you supposed to learn? I don't think people should replace electrical components in their PSUs, but the fan is a pretty simple replacement and usually DIY friendly.

Coil whine, I know that sound all too well. Nothing you can do here. I would assume that some hot glue came loose and now it creates that noise. Basically unfixable unless you know what you are doing and even then a new PSU would be cheaper than replacing a component. It's just annoying and doesn't really hurt the functionality (just your nerves).

Thankyou for the reply. Bought it 2nd hand so don't have the receipt for the RMA.

Thanks for the help. Guess I'll just deal with it and get another PSU down the road.
