What would be the best way to transfer large files to a Google TV or Amazon 4k Max Fire Stick

Johnsmith45

I have been trying to figure out a way to transfer large files to my google tv and fire stick. They are roughly 30gb and I haven't figured out, how to do it. I have bought a few usb adapters and usb type c hub that allows me to connect a usb drive. The problem I am having is that these devices only support the FAT 32 format. The only solution I have found, so far is to buy the Nvidia Shield Pro.

FAT32 is limited to maximum 4 GB - 1 byte per file.  So you need to use a tool to split your big files into files under 4 GB.

For MKV files, MKVToolnix can do this : https://fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html

You can also load MP4 and other files into it, and export to MKV without video conversion, and select to split the file in  <4GB chunks.

The speed is limited by the actual flash memory on the stick.

Get a SATA to USB adapter, and connect an SSD to it. It shows up the same as other HDD/SSD drives do in explorer for you to drag/drop or however you usually transfer files between devices.

I use mine all the time instead of USB flash drives, for one it's much much faster, two it doesn't have the file limits of using FAT drives. I also use it with a USB type c to type a adapter so that I can use it with my phone too.

assuming you're in the us  https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sata+to+usb+3.0+adapter&crid=DDXMFCZ2YFRF&sprefix=sata+to+usb%2Caps%2C182&

hope that helps

If this is for home use just share a folder to the network on a pc and have the google tv, firestick,... browse to the folder on rhe network and play the file.

are you sure the Google TV and Fire Stick won't detect exFAT or NTFS?

If not then transferring over wifi will be your best bet.

If transferring from an android device then you could use one of the many file manager apps that have an equal version on Fire OS.

If transferring from a PC then you could setup a simple FTP server with FileZilla or similar and then download an FTP client on tv sticks to connect to it.

edit: all else fails you could do the classic thing of zipping up your files then breaking the zip file into parts for the transfer. then you can use any zip reader app (maybe even general file manager apps can do it too) to unpack the lead file again.
