PC won't work with 4 sticks of ram.

Hey guys, How are you? Just let me start by saying I'm typing on my phone, Sorry for any mistakes.

I got a Ryzen 3600 and a Aorus B450m Motherboard. I used to haver 2 8gb ram sticks from Adata, and bought 2 more. All sticks are from Adata, all of them are 8 gbs, and all of them are 3000mhz of speed. I don't haver The timings with me right now, but when I installed the new ram, Task Manager won't recognize the 32 gigs, but other apps, like Speccy, sees all 4 sticks. Tried moving them around, no success, and the PC won't even start sometimes. Now, using 3 sticks the PC will work fine, and everthing gets recognized every where. Do tou guys know why??

P.S.: Tried ALL combinarmos of sticks, and when there only 3, no matter wich ones, everthing works.

So, if you know that every stick works and every slot works and its just when you try and pop that 4th stick in that it falls over then maybe try loosening your timings or pumping a bit more voltage in.

I'm not an AMD man so not entirely sure what voltage you will need to adjust to give the memory controller a bit more juice. I think its called VDDR / VDDQ but maybe someone else can chime in a correct me.

Its not uncommon for people to have issues with 4 sticks of ram.

Sounds like a pissy motherboard / cpu. How up to date is your BIOS? and have you tried clearing cmos?

Not sure you can use any XMP /over 2133MT speed with 4 sticks on that old board with Zen2

I mean its zen on 4 stick configuration, its always pissy. Updating BIOS is a good start but getting it to work at 3200 with known random bin like Adata is more like Russian Roulette than a normal Roulette in terms of success.

Id rather OP sell the 2x8 stick and get a 2x16GB kit. Yes, RAM sells slower than others on the marketplace but if you let them haggle, you can win.

All right! Back to my PC. Let's break this answer down! 😄

@ChrisLoudon I'll give the timmings a check and see, and I'll have to look what VDDR / VDDQ are! Sorry, but I'll check them too.

@Seb_1 Loved the profile pic btw! I have the new BIOS installed, cleared the CMOS, but no change.

@PDifolco In this case, XMP on or off didn't make a change. Tried both ways

@SorryBella Thanks, but I won't sell them. I have an ongoing plan to build myself a DIY NAS for me, so I'll use the 1 stick of ram I'm not using for that, but thanks! 😄

Hmp, then im kind of stuck on whats wrong, I want to say motherboard. All i can say is a dead motherboard? But if it recognize  in windows that woudnt make sense. I mean do you need all the ram? 24gb of ram is fine for most things.

Probably best do a bit more research on this as I'm not 100% sure about this. I do know that getting 4 sticks of ram to boot CAN be down to the memory controller not having enough voltage to effectively control all 4 sticks.

Just do a bit of Googling specific to your CPU, Mobo and Chipset just to make sure your tinkering with the correct setting and when you do find which one to adjust, double check to see what a 'safe increment' is likely to be or you might end up damaging something.

@Seb_1 Like I've said. I'm not wasting that stick! And no, I really don't need the 32 gbs. It was just a good number.

@ChrisLoudon Yeah... I'll have to do more research on this. But thanks for the help!

Yea the good number part is reasonable lol. Otherwise if it isnt bothering you just accept your fate with the 1 less stick of ram. Still kind of weird. One last thing in the BIOS can you see all 4 sticks, if so it might be a OS issue.

Yeah, I can live with that. The pc still works fine, it runs everything I need it to run. Maybe next year on when nvidia launches the 6xxx series I'll think to change the PC! 😄

Try to gradually increase the RAM voltage, by small 0.05 increments

I have the same board and it can be iffy with 4 sticks. I have a mixed die set of 4x8 corsair vengeance lpx 3200. To get things stable, I upped the voltage and messed with the timings. If remember, I think it was Trc that I adjusted 4#'s up with voltage at 1.37v. You can give it a try but user mileage may vary(There could be more things to adjust).

Also, having 32gb of RAM in 2023 is great.
