I have an RX 570 and I record some Minecraft, whenever I use h264 in OBS, the fidelity is fine but sometimes the video gets very choppy, my audio isn't synced and the video is just frozen. But when I use h265, it is very smooth but there is a lot of compression. Is there anything I can do to either make the H264 recordings smooth or make the h265 recordings less compressed.

Are you encoding on your GPU or CPU?

I've not had any good experiences streaming or recording in OBS with CPU encoding while playing CPU-heavy games.

The hardware encoders on RX 4xx and RX 5xx are not very good, a good part of the options were buggy and really not working even if you enabled them and AMD didn't really do much to help open source programs like OBS to do.

h264 should be a bit faster and hevc won't really give you a significant increase in quality

They really bank on HEVC success and it fucking blow up in their face. H.264 on VCE remains to be terrible even in 7000 series. If youre just recording, using H.265 is fine, but if you stream, swap to x264 and accept the CPU stutter issue especially on CPU bounded titles.
