RAM upgrade pre-built PC

Hey all,

I have the acer m5811.

I have done a case and graphics card upgrade so my specs atm are:

OS: Win7 home premium 64x

GPU:Asus GTX 650TI OC 2GB

CPU: i5 750 (2,66Ghz)

RAM: 4GB DDR3

Case: Sharkoon T28 Blue

HDD: 1TB (something)

I believe the MOBO is a h57m01

1156

H57 chipset.

So i want to upgrade my ram(2x2GB) to 8gb (2x4GB). I read somewhere else that someone had a problem booting his pc after the same upgrade (different pc).

I believe the MAXram for this mobo is 8gb. So i hope that one of you guys can confirm this and see if i can upgrade to the Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3-1600 kit.

The motherboard supports a maximum of 2x4GB RAM modules with a maximum clockspeed of 1333mhz.

Do you have a 32 bit operating system? If you do you can't upgrade

I have a 64 bit. (wrote 64x by accident)

So i can upgrade to 2x4gb? And if i upgrade to 1600mhz does it hurt anything or does it just run on a slower speed? 1333mhz in this case.

Thanks for the fast answers too!

You should be looking at ram with clock speeds of 1066/1333MHZ your motherboard doesn't support the frequentie that hyperX ram runs at.

You can actually set the RAM speeds in the BIOS but a lot of people still have problems if they put in ram on a to high frequency even after underclock the ram via the BIOS. I would highly recommend you to get ram which is at 1333MHZ just to be safe. ;)

It's possible that a prebuilt mobo won't have a way for you to adjust timings or memory speeds so may be best to get a 1333 set to be safe. I have used GSkill in all my computers with no compatability problems.

Newegg has these

The Ripjaws X set has nice tight timings that should make up for you not being able to use 1600.
