Apperently a software update overclocked the Wii U.I know most people here dont care about consoles, but here's the article-

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/05/rumour_the_recent_wii_u_system_update_has_boosted_clock_speeds

According to this article,a software update overclocked the Wii Us processor from 1.24GHz to 3.4Ghz,it also overclocked the GPU from 550Mhz to 800Mhz.Its a roumour though,I dont think that have overclocked the CPU to 3.4Ghz.Plus wont the console melt?the console itself is a little bit bigger than a 200mm fan and is 4.5 cm tall.

Sweet article, I just might have to update my Wii U to see if it does that for me :)

I think it maybe true. It was curious to me when Nintendo announced such an underpowered chip (come on ! 1.24Ghz is ridiculous at the moment). So i wont be surprised if with the firmware update, they have boosted the clock speeds (by changing the multiplier in the BIOS for example). IBM PowerPC Esspreso chip is no slouch.

Sorry if my English is not perfect, but it isn't my native language :)

They almost tripled the clock on the chip? What?

That's quiet surprising, I'm now goig to sitback and watch while people start having heat issues lol.

Naturally I'm a little sceptical... Hold it. I'm very sceptical! That's nearly 3x the core clock. I needs moar pruff :/

1.24GHz is not that low when you consider the PS4 and 720 are rumored to have clock speeds around the same speeds, but will be heavily multi-threaded. Though due to the fact that WiiU is still using the PPC architecture 1.24GHz is pretty slow, but then again how many threads can those three cores execute at once?

I find this hard to believe, that's a 2GHz jump on CPU and a 250Mhz jump on the GPU. Unless they intentionally held the speeds back at launch to fix certain bugs I find it hard to digest due to heat and increased power consumption.

I remember with the PSP it had a 333mhz CPU that was downlocked to around 133mhz to save on battery life, I'll bet if the Wii U did get an over clock then it is something like the PSP did where is was down clocked to begin with

I remember an article a long time ago saying the PSP would be more powerful than the PS2 if the original clock speeds 333mhz stayed the same. However, your right, to save battery life, it was declocked, some homebrew PSP's have an overclocking section in the bios to push it higher than stock, faster loading times and general usage is faster..

Sounds very much the same thing as what Wii has just done, unlocked potential already there, why start off so low though with it at launch...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
