Want a PC gaming within budget

eliyth

I'm someone who really likes to play video games. My problem? I play on a laptop and can't run any games at more than 40 fps, and it's often at about 20-30 fps. It's bad. Since I'm still a teenager, I can't make that much money so I set my budget as 2000$ to 3000$ CAD and planning to work the most I can to be able to finally afford it. I had friends help me make a PC with a PC builder website because I don't know anything about stuff like that if I'm being honest.

One of them recommended me to go on this site and ask for help. This is the PC that he made for me and I was wondering if there was any way I could make it cheaper and better? The set up he made me included a headset (100$ i think), monitor (115$), and keyboard (60$), but it was still within budget. If there is any way to make it better or cheaper, I'll appreciate the advice. Thank you.

did you wanna list the price of the rest of the peripherals or is it part of the challenge that we have to guess how thats allocated.

I will say this , if i spent 3k and got a machine with an 8gb 3060 i wouldnt be too happy

Rule of thumnb of a gaming PC, esp. since 2020, is 50% of budget to GPU...

So get a cheaper CPU like 13400, 7600 or such, and a much better 4070 or 7900XT GPU

Cheaper CPU also means cooler CPU so get a cheap $40 aircooler, and get more RAM instead  (2x16GB)

here you are, 2500 Australian rubles  🙂

I never heard that 50% rule!  I'd go 35-40%, not a fan of the 7600 + 7900XT, too unbalanced for me.  I understand 1440p skews, but want a little more CPU with my GPU.

What if we bump to a 7700x and drop to the Gaming AX?

50% rule used to be monitors for me until high refresh rate VRR displays got cheap.

I'd agree more on 35-40%, however, I don't think there's any 'imbalance' to a 7600 and 7900XT unless they're primarily a WoW player or something. Even then, a 7600 is more than capable, but a 7800x3D and RTX 4070 would be better in that scenario.

i would agree with the last part but the 7700x doesn't offer any meaningful performace uplift in gaming over the 7600

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Thank you.

i would agree with the last part but the 7700x doesn't offer any meaningful performace uplift in gaming over the 7600

Per HU, Roughly 10% uplift from the 7600 to the 7700x for gaming, with much more for productivity.  Is it worth it?  IMO, yes, as you can PBO/CO nicely.

But we should go with the 5800x3d as the 7600 doesn't provide ANY benefit over it, saving money with the AM4 platform?

Gains will NEVER be linear, but we need to pick a stopping point and just buy.  Your build with the 7800x3d is the proof in the pudding, as it doesn't perform 2x the 7600, but we look at entire build cost for that, and it makes sense.

Well that is with a 4090 at 1080p

With a 7900xtx and probably not at 1080p the performance gap is much lower and op doesn't seem to be doing productivity.

Also the 5800x3d total platform cost is more then a 7600 platform cost

You could drop that AM4 motherboard down to easily produce a combo under $450, but I'll concede the point that the lowest AM5 performs as well as the best AM4 for roughly the same combo pricing.

No reason to new build 5800x3d's anymore then.

-> Moved to New Builds and Planning

First, you don't need i7 to game. Especially when you cheap out with 16Gigs of RAM. Just get i5 or Ryzen 5, thats well enough for your needs. You can always upgrade when you decide you want to something beyond gaming.

Second, you don't need triple-rad AIO. You probably need $50 air cooler and thats only if you go with Intel. Easy $100 of the list. And on the topic of cooling, your chosen case comes with 4 fans. You don't every need more than those. So drop the fans from the list. Another $50 saved.

You probably won't need or want to spend more of K-chip if you go with B-series mobo. Unless prices are almost same as K-chips tend to have more boost. And your PSU has no maker nor model so saying whether its good or not just can't happen.

You say you are teenager with limited funds. That means either that its actually your parents who are going to be paying this, either as whole or partially. So I highly doubt they will let you spend much over $1500 if you say its just for gaming. So optimize on money, getting most amount of performance for least amount of money. Instead of spending to stuff that you really don't need.

How about something like this. That 120mm Arctic fan goes inside the back of that case for a rear exhaust fan.

, too unbalanced for me

The idea of having percentages of 'balance' at all is fallacious.  Identify needs and get parts to meet those needs.  This, as of late, has led to GPUs GENERALLY taking up much more of budget.  Really all a CPU is is a part that does a job.  If that part has gotten cheaper or that job less demanding compared to the tool available for it, then so be it.

There are plenty of scenarios where, in the US, a $180 12600k is the poerfect CPU to go with something like a $900 7900xtx, especially considerring GPUs like that are really more for 4k or very high rr 1440p, which the 12600k is still more than capable of generating absurd frames for in any case.

That might look 'unbalanced' just from a cost perspective, but that should play absolutely no role in the final decision so long as it's suitable and/or sustainable for the overall budget.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.
