LG OLED Flex - 42LX3QPSA 1st Impression

OMG! LG did it perfectly! The HDR is perfect, no washed out like Asus did on ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ. The default profile preset is already good. The only I change at the moment is disable the Power Saving mode.

 

In short summary,

• Perfect HDR preset, no washed-out issue.
• Perfect games optimized mode.
• Consistency brightness when set as PC mode, no ABL kick-in.
• The curve 50% just nice for productivity.
• Unbelievable great sound, not like my LG C9 which sound terrible.
• Great screen coating use, it still glossy but well blocking the reflections.

The cons

• Freaking heavy!
• No idea why they need revert to flat when you power off or they return to standby mode. This seems increase the bending if you use curve always.

Glad you like it! Since i have basically the same TV but without the curve, i get why you like it that much.

 

Hopefully this TV helped you get over your fear of glossy screens

 

As soon as i'm done with my C2 calibration settings, i'll mention you in the thread. Maybe you can try some of these settings out. Even if it is great out of the box, maybe i can help you make it even better

You are correct, they are no impact at all and look much nicer. Thank you.

 

After using this LG, I am absolutely regret buying the Asus PG42UQ, how could Asus mess-up so badly on the HDR, Asus should asking help from LG if no idea how to adjust the HDR output correctly, instead of releasing a semi broken HDR output.

After two days tested of LG OLED Flex.

 

Below are my preferable settings as its best suite me.

 

• Mode - Game Optimiser (the best mode and this mode did basically everything you need for use as a monitor, including ABL off)
• Colour Temperature - Warm 5 (default is 0 for Game Optimiser mode, I love this setting pretty much, easier to adjust what you prefer)
• AI Brightness Settings - OFF (I never like auto adjust brightness follow environment conditions)
• AI Sound Pro - ON (the best internal speaker sound, I used this for my Apple TV box)
• Curvature Setting - 75% (I find the best curve level for productivity and gaming in 16:9 aspect ratio display)
• Energy Saving Step - OFF (this should be off to maximize the image quality, especially on its brightness output)
• HDMI Deep Colour - 4K (only two options, off or 4K, sound weird LG label this as 4K now instead of previous in my C9 which is label as ON)
• Always Ready - OFF (this additional wallpaper is waste time if you want immediate off the monitor power)
• OLED Panel Care - Default Setting (Screen Move - ON, Adjust Logo Brightness - Low and Care Recommendations - ON)
• Home Auto Launch - OFF (my main usage is as monitor for PC not main feature as Smart TV but the add-on is benefits when I want to use it)

• Washed out HDR in latest firmware for some device like Apple TV box. For Windows itself washed out as well. Not for when watching movie or gaming but it is a bit less vibrant. 
• HDR very dim when set as 10000K, need keep toggle in between 6500K and 10000K. This bugs is not in older version 028 but 028 ABL off not working. 
• Very limited control setting in HDR. 
• The screen is not truly flat, each left and right more in maybe 0.01mm, this drive me nuts!

Well guess that will be the tales of the day for the none-monitor focused brand. Pitty though, Asus generally spare no expense when it comes to their hardware. I was quite frankly didn't expect it to fail

I am also surprise. Basically all recent OLED monitor release by Asus got issue. Truly shocking.

Hi. Yup, it is motorized. You just need to press the curvature button at remote to change the curve level, default is flat, 50% and 100% but you can set one custom level.

The LG OLED Flex is on sale here in Sweden for ~1450 USD. Considering getting this one over the C2, as the flex is $200 more expensive than the C2 at the moment.

At this price, would you consider the flex over the C2?

Yes I will, I also buy during promotion.  

Your promotion price is indeed very worth. I still need to paid USD $1974 after discount. 

 

You get curve or flat anytime, with much better reflection blocking glossy screen which is good point to use as monitor. 

 

Please take noted the LG OLED Flex stand cannot be replace and cannot vesa mount.

C2 42" or any LG 42" OLED never sell in Malaysia except this OLED Flex, so how cheap also not related to me.  

 

Malaysia LG OLED TV all start from 48" and above. Not sure who is PIC of LG Malaysia, damn silly having such decision. 

 

Also OP is from Sweden and highlight only cheaper $200, which means still need USD $1250 in OP country.
