Do adapters loose write speeds?

I've used enclosures for a long period of time and never noticed any huge dips, I'm curious if theirs anything I should watch out for such as a basic enclosure like this

Unless the firmware of the adapter really sucks or the USB version provides a bandwidth bottleneck ( which would affect reads too), then no the adapter itself shouldnt cause slower write speeds. I think I have that enclosure and it did not cause that issue for me.
Having said that, at anytime whether using an adaptor or not your drive could enter a condition like <20% or less free space where it might have slower writes because it needs garbage collection/TRIM of previously deleted files & such.
It is possible that if an adapter somehow causes your SSD to sleep before SSD's own garabge collection, then that won't happen and you have to rely on the OS to initiate TRIM. That was a rabbit hole i went down and had a hard time getting a straightforward answer about an LTT-recommended enclosure supposedly didn't support TRIM even though most current enclosures do...
