Corrosion of demineralized water?

Go to solution Solved by johnno23,

you will still require a form of algaecide and dont forget the water will heat up and cool down.......perfect breeding place for gunk that will block your micro fins on any cooling block.

also running 2 x 420 is fine on a single D5 but if you going so high end just get a second D5 as a redundancy as if you only have the one Pump in your system and should it ever fail you are facing downtime until you have a replacement and bled the system etc etc

I use 2 x D5 on a Dual Pump block and whilst the flow is improved a little nothing amazing but the security that if one fails my system does not care is golden

Hi guys, I am thinking of building my first custom loop and wanted to ask if I can use demineralized water without additives for water cooling and if it can cause corrosion of the nickel plating? Has anyone tried this?

I also wanted to ask if one Corsair XD5 pump is enough for 2 ekwb 420mm rads?

thanks in advance ❤️

Demineralized water won't corrode anything, but add some biocide to avoid any lifeform forming in

A D5 pump will be okay with 2 rads

Not just biocide, get an inhibitor too. Deionized or distilled water over time will pick up metal ions off the metals it comes in contact with. In a typical watercooling loop, that will be brass, copper, nickel, maybe stainless steel. The inhibitor will make sure there's no problems with the metals interacting, while the biocide will prevent growth of microbes. You will also need to top up both additives every now and then, and testing the PH level of your loop is not a bad idea.

You should always have inhibitor additives, and change water on a regular schedule.
