Blurry 2K Screen

My Texts appear very blurry, I have a brand new 2K monitor. I am running at 1440p and I increased my UI to 125% so I can see things better .... is this what is causing the issue? I have my Monitor Sharpness set to 100%

2k is another name for 1080p, not 1440p. So try not to confuse that.

 

Anyways, makes sure clear type is on and set to the correct sub pixel lay out inside the OS.

What size is your screen?

1440p looks blurry to me on a 32-inch (16:9) monitor.

If it's a 1440p 27-inch monitor, then 100% scaling should be perfect unless you have bad vision.

Turn on ClearType. 

For that screen with clear type on you get the top image, with it off you get the bottom image which is not as clear

just because a couple of people got confused after UHD/4k standards came out and were not corrected does not mean it should not be corrected now. Scrub the internet of that wrong information as it crops up.

Turn on ClearType. 

For that screen with clear type on you get the top image, with it off you get the bottom image which is not as clear

in common parlance 2K is 1440.

 

Not everyone speaks in DCI (which is also not 1920, that is below the DCI Spec for 2K.)

Yes, I use 125% Scalling because it then looks "normal" to me coming from 1080p. When I put 100% scalling everything seems "odd" and smaller than what I am used to.

But I did try 100% and it looks much better....so guessing I should turn it down from 125% and let my eyes get used to the new normal which is smaller

1440p can be called 2.5k. just not 2k. 

also no, in common parlance 2k is not 1440p, just some confused information out there making it a common misatribution.

Everything looks fairly normal to me except that blue banner bar in the install window which might just not scale well.

Staring at it up close it doesnt look too off, though scaling at all can be weird at times especially with non pixel uniform scales.

If it matches a spec?  That's convenient, but common parlance is not dependent on other specs.

For sharp UI, the pixel density sweet spot is around ~108 PPI

 

This is why Apple does really bizarre resolutions for their screens;

iMac M1 24" is 4480x2520 which is 218 PPI, so they run their UI as 2x scaling

Studio Display 27" is 5120x2880 (5K) which is also 218 PPI with UI at 2x scaling

You'll notice this is double (well actually 4x more pixels) than a regular 27" 1440p monitor

 

If you're coming from a 24" 1080p monitor, then you're use to a softer ~92 PPI and larger screen elements.

This is the reason your text is blurry, it not happened in newer apps that utilize Windows new scaling method, but older apps do not utilize Windows new scaling method will blurry out. 

 

You can one by one change the blurry apps scaling method and this can prevent the blur issue, but the apps will look very big if you got dual monitor setup and you move your apps from higher resolution to lower resolution monitor.

 

Another way is always using 100% scaling.

 

This is Windows 10 or 11 design issue. No way to solve in total once you scale more than 100%.

 

Step --> Right click the app shortcut and choose properties --> Go to Compatibility tab --> Click Change high DPI settings --> Tick Override high DPI scaling behavior and choose Application.

 

On top they are another tick for Program DPI and Microsoft said use this setting to fix scaling problems, but this solution not always work as it supposed to fix the blurry issue.

 

Another thing you need to take noted is if you want to show what happened to your monitor display, you need to use camera and take a photo of it. Screenshot is 1010 and screenshot won't be able to show the issue you face in your monitor. You can try using your mobile and look back to your attached screenshot and you will notice it is 100% sharp and clear.

If anything it clearly demonstrates the logic of 1920x1080 being called 2K, but marketing people more often call it FHD.

Depends what you call sharp. Higher than 108 PPI do look sharper to anyone than exactly 108 PPI.

 

I have 4k 32" display, aka around 138 PPI and is to me noticeably sharper than 108 PPI. 

 

If it's worth it or not is more subjective tho, to me it was.
