Hi. I've just installed a new GPU and new PSU, and now my PC is extremely hot. Particularly on the top and side of the PC are very hot. I've just played 10 minutes of a not-very-demanding game.

I am wondering if I've plugged something in incorrectly.

New PSU: Corsair RM850e

New GPU: Asus Rog Strix 3080 Ti

Could anyone help me figure out how to diagnose why my PC is so hot. Thanks.

Thats what happens. PCS get hot, remember 60-70c is 145-160 Fahrenheit, thats VERY hot, and thats why the cases get hot. 3080ti Is a toasty card, its 250-400W, thats a lot of heat. The case will absorb some of it.

Check temperatures using hwinfo64, if the gpu itself is less than 83 degrees  and CPU less than a 100 you don't need to worry

  • Motherboard
    Arous b550 pro ac v1

3080Ti needs 350W+ that's A LOT of power, if your case airflow isn't good the whole area will become hot

The whole area will be hot regardless. Better airflow just means it expels more heat in the room faster 😛

The system has a certain energy, the larger the area heat is spread around is, the less the temperature in the vicinity will be 😛

I experienced this before, my BQ Purebase 500 with a 3080 radiated heat all around my desk, like +5C in a small area

With a better case, more fans etc heat is sent all around and the whole room is maybe a couple C hotter but  it isn't noticeable

Thanks for the answers. I know I have bought a card that uses a lot of power, just wasn't sure if it was normal to be quite this hot.

Case is a Coolermaster HAF X, and yesterday I thoroughly cleaned it (including meshes and fans) when rebuilding it. But there are a few slots at the back missing, and the back side of the case is off due to cable routing. So probably could be better.
