Ok, I've done something truly stupid at some point in this chain, and I just need to post it somewhere to determine if whether I just need to give up and start from scratch.

  • I had an AM4 motherboard, and wanted to upgrade from a Ryzen 2600 to a Ryzen 5600G
  • I updated the BIOS, but something went wrong and I could get no video output from the system, although everything powered on, debug lights on the mobo were fine, and fans were spinning.

I tested every possible configuration, re-flashing bios, jumping CMOS, removing CMOS etc. and got nowhere, so I bought the new CPU and a new motherboard. I set everything up and I'm getting the same problem. I've tried all the same things and the outcome is exactly the same. With the 5600G I've tried onboard and GPU graphics. Is there anything else I can try? I suppose it could be RAM, but would that have caused it on the previous motherboard if there had never been problems before...

If you are having the same problem with 2 sets of motherboard and CPU then I would be looking elsewhere. Leave the GPU out for now and use onboard graphics simply to reduce a variable and clear the cmos to make sure you are at factory defaults.

Provided the computer is powering on (lights, fans, etc...). Double check your monitor and display cable, could be that something came lose while you were moving it around.

If you don't get lights or fans on the PC then I would check the PSU. Make sure everything is plugged in properly and securely. Also make sure your power source (power strip or outlet) is providing power.

Finally, are you getting any kind of error from the motherboard whether it is an led indicator, display code, or bios beeps?
