does having an aio make your computer heavier?

I currently have the corsair 1h100i elite capellix in the meshify 2 compact case, with a evga 3080, 2 140m fans, and one 120m fan for exhaust. When I moved to a new apartment, I took out my 3080 so it wouldn’t damage the motherboard in transport. But the computer was still pretty heavy, is it the aio thats making it heavy? is it my 1000w evga power supply? how to make my pc lighter without changing the modular psu?

What's the point of making it lighter exactly? Just to make it easier to transport? The power supply is probably pretty heavy, given it's a high quality unit with a high wattage output.

Its a tank full of water, so......yeah its about 910g of additional weight.  But the case alone is 7.7Kg, these higher quality cases with tempered glass panels weigh a lot more than budget cases with plastic panels.  They're not intended to be moved around.

Eh... it's as heavy as sum of it's parts. If you want to make it lighter take out more components or work out? IDK... that's one hell of a 1st world problem to have.

it's more of should it be that heavy? like is it normal? Moving to a place that makes you climb stairs have you rethinking everything lol

this has to be a troll post

if you want your PC to be lighter, put it in the contraption

nope it's not. When you're barely 5ft tall and have to climb stairs to your new apartment it makes you rethink things. I don't remember the computer being that heavy when I first built it, but it could be because of the new 1000w power supply.

yeah i'm starting to think you're right. Because when I first built my computer, it had a 650w psu. I removed the 3080 and the pc was still heavy. and I never thought about transport until I moved to an apartment that made me climb stairs. ITX form factor is expensive, and I just got a 1000w psu a month ago, so i'm stuck with a atx build. I doubt taking out the aio and switching to air cooling will help it, or even switching to matx

AIOs certainly do have some weight, but compared to your EVGA power supply, I don't think it's as heavy, especially since the power supply is far more dense. All that weight is in one location versus the AIO which is supported by the motherboard, and the radiator is spread across a larger area.

Short answer: any cooler is going to increase the weight of your PC, and water weighs about 8 lbs/gallon. The PSU is also pretty heavy.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
