Where i live a decent 2.5K monitor is 490 euros, a 4K (TN) panel is just 100 euros more. What do you advise me to buy (based purely on price, DO NOT GET SIDETRACKED AND MENTION PERFORMANCE (i know this happens a lot in LTT, so please just stick to the question) it is no issue).

I am coming from a 720p Macbook pro (2011), just so you don't ask that. (PS so i don't think i'll see the difference between TN and IPS, but you recommend :) )

Can you run 4k even? What PC specs do you have?

If you can't come anywhere close to running it above 30 FPS, just get a 1440p monitor then and upgrade in 5 years to 4k when it's more ready for market.

For day to day use, 4k is a bit annoying to deal with. I've spoken with a few people that have 4k, and they say the "UI Scaling" and "Zoom" features are a bit buggy, and without them the text is so small they get headaches after a short amount of use for things like web browsing, etc.

When 4k becomes a little bit more mainstream those features will probably get fixed, or the monitors will have built in text enhancers etc.

The choice is obvious. If the panel is TN, immediately dismiss it. problem solved. (Though the newer 10bit TN panels are considerably nicer than TNs of past)

As for 4K, what @Lays said. It's gonna be awhile before high quality 4K monitors are reasonably priced with matching hardware to drive those many pixels. Think of the GTX 750 Ti that can easly game at 1080p. Give it time.

Also windows is horrible on 4k, it doenst scale well at all, text is TINY and icons are horrible

You end up scaling it up 150% or 200% thus making 4k for the desktop pointless outside of video/audio production/photography etc,

I find 1440p great middle ground, easy enough to drive with good graphics cards, great PPI for games and lots of desktop space with 1080p look and feel to it

"DO NOT GET SIDETRACKED AND MENTION PERFORMANCE" I knew it was gonna happen :P (PS don't worry, i can get good frame rates :) )

If you don't see the difference between TN and IPS, then by all means just go with the 4k monitor.

This one is TN and has excellent reviews, and Linus reviewed it a while back.

This is the exact one which i am considering. Also considering the Asus alternative, the PB287Q.
