So I have been looking around for speakers in my price range that can go to about 150$. There are three 2.1 sets that I am stuck between.

The three being:

Klipsch promedia 2.1
Logitech Z623
Harmon Kardon Soundsticks 3

Anyone know which I should pick? Or know of something that's better for about the same price? Even help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for something that handle: Bass/Dubstep, Rock, and Rap. Those are the fields that I mainly listen to.

Out of your list, Klipsch Promedia 2.1 beats the rest by a lot. There are 2.0 speakers that are better but if you must have a sub, then the Klipsch are the way to go.

I have the Logitech z623's and they are really good for the money.  I am happy that I chose them and if you buy them, I think you will be happy too.. The bass is very good with no distortion and it shakes my whole house if i turn it up enough.  Very loud too. They are also good for gaming if you plan on using them for that too.

Seems like the majority is going with the Logitech thus far. Just so you guys know, I am open to getting a set put together. Like getting speakers, amp, and a sub if I could do better that way.

I just did some research on the Klipsch, they seem to be on par(some say better some say worse)

I just did some research on the Klipsch, they seem to be on par(some say better some say worse) with the z623 but one thing is clear, their failure rate is very high, thats a clear warning for me.

I don't know about the failure rate but Klipsch is an actual audio company while Logitech isn't. The Klipsch sound better. I would only go logitech if you need something very cheap like $30 and you just want something decent that works.

Failure rate is high for the Klipsch?

yes its pretty high, a lot of people have complained about it

From what ive seen so far the failure rate is dramatically higher then the logitech brand, id rather have slightly worse speakers then better speakers which are broken.

How about I change the direction of this post. What is the best I can do for around 200$ that will get me great sound and bass?

corsair sp2500 beat all three recommendations above.

Corsairs are a big meh.

I personally use CEntrance 2504 with a Lepai amp. The speakers are on Massdrop now and with the amp it's about $200. If tyou have more room, then some used 3 way speakers would be very good.

Any of the regulars here will tell you that Logitech is not a good audio brand. You can go with the Klipsch, or some 2.0 system from a real audio company or used 3 way bookshelfs like these

What amp would I use with those speakers? And would getting a sub be necessary for bass?

3 way speakers have subs built in so no unless you want like extra extra bass. A simple Lepai 2020A+ amp should be able to run them loud enough but if you want to invest in a more powerful amp that would be better down the line.

Can you suggest a better amp? The Lepai 2020A+ only pushes 20w rms, but the speakers can take up to 200. And sorry for all the questions, I'm not too knowledgeable with audio equipment.

A home theater receiver would be the best but I think something like this is pretty good too.

I would just go with the logitechs, easier and cheaper...

I have little knowledge of speakers, but 1 brand stuck in my mind for a long time (I'm talking 15 years, give or take). It's Jamo. When I was still a little peanut in junior high, my dad built a home sound system setup with 2 jamo standing 3 ways (with the biggest cone is the 15"), controlled by a Denon AVR. The reason why I brought this up is, that very same system is still working till this day, used routinely for 15 years!! That's how durable they are. And they sound great too, both quality and loudness handling.

Of course the setup I mentioned is most probably a big overkill for you, but I just want to recommend (and certainly vouch for, based on first hand experience) the brand. Search for 'Jamo speakers' in amazon, and you'll get a lot of hits of their products, from budget friendly personal setups, to their high-ends.

* Just to get some picture, they have 2 ways bookshelf speakers at around $100, ranging to the 'niagara' at 42 grand (http://www.amazon.com/Waterfall-Audio-Niagara-Standing-Loudspeakers/dp/B002BSH27I/ref=sr_1_60?ie=UTF8&qid=1399847195&sr=8-60&keywords=jamo+speakers)
