Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

DTReality

Hello good people, I've been having this problem for quite some time now, even after re-installing Windows 2-3 times (1 year+ maybe)

The problem is, whenever I plug in something in my USB port I get "Unknown USB Device" error on the bottom right.

The thing is that I tried to unplug every USB connected to my PC but the problem still stands, i usually uninstall it from Device Manager and it goes away for some time

but the funny thing is that for example when I launch a video game it suddenly pops up again. I tried anything but with no avail.

Note: after uninstalling it from the device manager and pressing scan for hardware changes it pops up again.

P.S this type of topic was already created but it was a long time ago and i didn't want to revive it so i posted a new one.

Does this happen with all devices? For example I would disconnects on devices that were relatively power hungry (USB HDDs for example) but devices such as mice and keyboard would never get disconnected.

My BIOS is up to date, well at least when MSI last uploaded an update I applied it.

Nothing too fancy connected. Only mouse, keyboard, headphones. I thought maybe mobo USB port were damaged or something like that but everything works.

There are hundreds of reasons why you would get a device descriptor failed message.

the message means that literally the windows cannot receive the device descriptor message from the usb device.
However, the usb hub has detected a presence. of something. It takes as little as a 100 ohm pull up resistor to one data line to trigger presence.

in short, the most logical answer is that you have at minimum +5v and one data line that works.

Your problem is very likely the port has either a ground or one of the two data lines, or both that are disconnected or damaged in some way.

or the data lines are shorted together, or one data line is shorted to ground or +5v. Regardless, it is certainly a physical problem of the port, cabling, or the hub.

What you said seems pretty logical, I'll try to do some rearrangement on my USB ports and come back with an update.

Update: I unplugged every USB, tested each port and the error didn't pop up, then after 2 hours I launched a game and while loading in I got that desktop notification about the error again. At this point I think that probably one or maybe even two or three USB ports are damaged.

If anyone gets an idea on what to check or do let me know.
