It’s overkill. Unless you were shooting a lot of ProRes 4K raw footage I would say h either stick with 128 gigs (since that’s the base storage) of get 256

everything else seems like a good idea tho

so im prob gonna get my first phone soon (m ik im 14 and its weird that i dont have one i get it) and i would like some input on my choices. i dont like big phones and the iphone 13 mini looks perfect for me, and i was wondering if 512 gb of storage is overkill or not. the apps im prob gonna use a lot are clash royale, snap, imsg, and discord and i prob will be taking lots of pics. imo airpods are overpriced and ive been hearing lots of good things about raycons so im prob gonna get the everyday buds. for the case im gonna go with an otterbox magsafe (https://www.otterbox.com/en-us/protective-iphone-13-mini-and-iphone-12-mini-case-with-magsafe-black/77-86695.html) and screen protector (https://www.otterbox.com/en-us/privacy-iphone-13-mini-screen-protector-clear/77-85931.html) because my parents have been using otterbox products forever and they are like tanks. any input is welcome but be mindful that the case choice is prob out of the realm of my control bcs like i said my parents will prob make me get the otterbox

you dont need an aio for anything but i9 cpus or heavy oc jobs just get an nh-d15 or peerless assassin

Have you held a small phone like the 13 mini in your hand tho? Cuz you need to make sure you like the feel of it. Like for an example I have a silicone case on my xr and I think it’s perfect for me since my fingers are actually pretty big so it’s easy to hit the keyboard.

That should be the opposite. Raycons have a history of mimicking early Beats by Dre. There is nothing but muddy bass. Vocals and instruments just get completely destroyed. The only reason why Raycons remain to have any sort of relevance is because of the money they dump on social media marketing.

Also as someone who has a base model 12 Mini (64GB of storage), 128GB would be plenty if you're not shooting a ton of video. My entire gallery from my iPhone 6s migrated over (currently 4.376 photos + 278 videos), with 607 songs in my music library and there's still 5GB left. So 512GB is way overkill for something that you wouldn't be shooting raw and 4K60 content on a daily basis with anyways. 128GB would be more comfortable if you're like me and don't even bother offloading old photos.

If you don’t need the better cameras or slight bump in performance the 13 is also there. Or get a refurbed 13 pro for the same price as a 13

clash royale

You may want to install some apps that help you think about the world like

Nasa Worldwind, KDE's open-source marble, and OpenStreetMap. This will allow you to see the entire globe and how it looks.  Yes obvious, but have you ever just panned around and looked a crop land use, or the barren stretches of land, or around areas like the Congo in Africa?

It can be very educational.

Firefox is available for iOS as well as Android and Windows, Mac and Ubuntu Linux.  Safari has 23% of use on mobile devices keeping google's dominance to just around 65%, and it's the same number for desktop use, 65%.

Firefox is open-source, Chrome is not and chromium has a lot of google built in still.

Podcasts can be quite educational as well if you want some suggestions.

Field, Lab, Earth is a great one.

Destination Linux is quite educational as well.

EFF's How to fix the Internet is another good one.  The soonee you understand how data collection works, and how Linux and open-source works, the better you will understand our technological world.

: JRE #1914 Siddarth Kara

How bad is e-waste?  Listen to that Joe Rogan episode.

"Now you get what you want, but do you want more?
- Bob Marley, Rastaman Vibration album 1976

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

Software suggestions

Just get f.lux [Link removed due to forum rules] so your screen isn't bright white at night, a golden orange in place of stark 6500K bluish white.

released in 2008 and still being improved.

Dark Reader addon for webpages.  Pick any color you want for both background and text (background and foreground page elements).  Enable the preview mode on desktop for Firefox and Chrome addon, by clicking the dark reader addon settings, Choose dev tools amd click preview mode.

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.

I have the iPhone XR. I have had it for at least 3 or4 years at this point. It's the 64 Gigs model and I just checked and a little over 30 Gigs used. While your milage will vary, unless you're shooting shit loads of picks or are going to have an ungodly amount of apps, a lower storage amount can probably work.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
