Should I upgrade my GPU?

Hello everyone,

 

I have a few questions about upgrading my GPU.

I bought the: R9 270x 2GB GDDR5 OC Dual-X Boost a few months ago (I think december 2013) and I was pretty much happy with it, only last week I started researching some new cards again. And now I am thinking of upgrading again. However my 270x runs pretty desent.

What is your advise, should I do this or not?

 

I mostly use my PC for gaming, important for me is that I can play the games on high settings, and I play a lot of skyrim which i have heavally modded (also a lot of graphic mods) and this i run at about 30fps. 30fps i personally dont find enough.

 

The Gainward GeForce GTX 770 2GB Phantom caught my I, also the specs seem to be better than the standard GTX 770, I think...

Or do you have other suggestions, my maximum price is 300$.

Do you guys think this is a smart choice, or am I just buying crap with my money?

 

Also I have heard of a new generation Nvidia cards which is based on the Maxwell architecture, if i am correct. Should i wait with upgrading my card untill the maxwell cards are on the market?

 

I would also like to hear from you what i should look for with comparing differend cards? should i look at the memory speed or something else?

 

Finally I would like to know if it actually is usefull to upgrade my card acording to the rest of my components, or should i upgrade something else first? I have my system specs down here:

CPU: Intel COre i5 2500K 3.3GHz

PSU: 460W from coolermaster

MOBO: Asus P8H61

RAM: 8GB of DDR3 RAM

HDD: 1TB seagate

If you're going to upgrade from a 270x, go to a 290 or 780, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

The 270x is a great little card.

In your post itself you said that you were enjoying your card, until you started researching again and now you want a faster card. Don't fall into this trap.

The card is a tool to help you enjoy your gaming.

 

I don't think you should upgrade this generation, or even next.

If you have the upgrade itch so bad buy an SSD, I can see from your specs that you only have a mechanical HDD.

as my advice I'd say no.

 

if you got upgrade itch

 

grab a new psu from seasonic, grab an ssd then later grab a new gpu.

Throw another 270x in and get a better PSU? I don't know how you can game @ 30 fps, I feel 60 hz is a little low (66+ = perfect in my opinion).
