Equivalent to Microsoft Office on Mac

Go to solution Solved by ErickS89,

Can't they just use Office 365?  Since it gives you the latest and greatest (lol) for MS Office I see no reason for a stand alone 2013 version on the mac since 365 covers that.

So, one of my parents bought a mac and they want an equivalent to word, excel ect (2013 editions). Apparently pages isn't good enough. Is there a good one? Cost isn't really an issue. Is the Mac word still shit like it was a year ago?

It needs to be as good as the 2013 version of office.

Kingsoft.

Is it backwards compatible with word ect?

You can get MS Office for Mac, but it's only up to 2011 I think.

Sorta need 2013 because it has about twice as much functionality, and with a quick look on the internets it seems it's not much better than apples software.

Try LibreOffice or OpenOffice (both free; I use LibreOffice) for an office alternative and see if it meets your needs.

And if you haven't already done so, you could check out Microsoft Office 365 and see if it's compatible with a mac. (I don't know)

For school I've used word, libre office, and kingsoft. All documents have worked in all programs.

Kingston office, LibreOffice or Office for Mac. All of them support older versions of documents and the 2013 docs.

Is kingsoft for mac?

This is simply incorrect. Office for Mac 2011 is basically just Office 2010 ported to Mac, with some UI changes. Office 2010 (And by Extension Office 2011 for Mac) has essentially the same feature-set as Office 2013.

The main differences with 2013 is Microsoft Account/OneDrive (Formerly SkyDrive) integration, a major UI tweak, and lots of little minor feature changes, odds are which you probably will never use or care about.

Also, as @ErickS89 mentioned, they could get a Office 365 Subscription and have access to Office online through the browser (It might even come with Office 2011 for Mac as well, since it gives you access to the latest Windows versions).

Can you be very specific about which features from Office 2013 are needed that are not present in Office 2010/Office 2011 for Mac?

I don't use word, nor anything else, but apparently Microsoft has deliberately ripped stuff from it when ported to mac. Not my words, I was looking on a mac forum and they said that directly. Also, they said there is about half as much functionality as the latest version... 365 sounds good, told them about it and they said they might do one month for starters.
