Is it possible and cheaper to build your own pinball machine?

Remixt

I made the mistake of getting into pinball recently and I want my own machine for the basement. However, after looking at decent machines on Ebay I am starting to regret my new hobby.

I've considered maybe designing and building my own machine, but I assume these are expensive for a reason. Anyone have experience with this?

It's certainly possible to scratch-build a pinball machine, but it's no easy feat.

You might wanna look around local classifieds and actually use facebook groups as mostly older people have these. Its how I found a ripoff star trek one with a broken, minor water damage top plate and wonky electronics for free. Was a fun 3 week project with a friend to fix.
