Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 - Google Play Store Stopped

Haven't used this tablet in many years, and just recently noticed this error: "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped." 

I believe this device used an older version of the Play Store, but I'm unable to download apps from that version and the tablet automatically updates to the newer version wherein I get this error. I've tried some troubleshooting steps online, but none of them work.

All I really wanted to do was download a video player like VLC to make some video playlists and set the player to loop through them because I don't think the default "Gallery" or "Video" player apps can do this. 

So I'd be happy if I could somehow fix this Play Store issue so I can actually download a few apps or if someone can tell me how I can get a better video player on the device that doesn't involve using the Play Store. Thanks.
