Best big monitor for WFH

FredC1

Hi,

I work from home full-time and my laptop is a M2 MacBook Air. Not wanting to buy a dock supporting Display Link and be limited to 1080p on a 2 monitors setup I’m looking at buying a 40+ inches monitor (not ultrawide, I presently use a 34 ultrawide and I don’t like it).

The LG 43UN700B is my number one choice at the moment (USB-C, 4K, usb hub) but I wonder if you have other suggestion ?

I’m an ITSM consultant so color accuracy is not really important and I don’t play games so refresh rate isn’t important neither.

LCD ? OLED ? TV as a monitor ? I’d like to hear your thoughts !

Thanks !

For $700, I'd agree with you, go for that.

If you want to spend a little more though, the old 5K LG Ultrafine would give you more screen real estate if you don't use scaling while still retaining the 1 cord I/O. That said, non-scaled 5K at 27" means everything's going to be pretty small...

Also, just be weary that MacOS will foolishly default a 4K screen to 1080p scaling, so everything is going to look STUPID ENORMOUS. at 40+ inches, it's best to turn scaling off completely so it doesn't make UI elements huge and rob you of the screen real estate you're looking for.

I use SwitchResX to do that on my monitors.

A lot to love about this. 4k 60Hz IPS Display and HDR10 (well, sort of at only 400nits ...) The dot pitch is about the same as a 24" 1080p monitor so fonts should look fine in large spreadsheets.

If I wasn't already using 3 x 24" 16x10 1080p ProArt Displays I'd pick that up.

I recommended the previous version to my brother-in-law and he loves it for working from home. He's a Programmer so having the multiple inputs and being able to split-screen is useful for him too. The current model is a bit pricey at the moment here but I've seen it go on sale regularly for $200 off.
