Hi, i've recently made a post about my gpu fans going wild and i've figured out the reason. while my gpu may be at 61C the hotspot is reding 91C causing fan spikes!!!!!!!! Is there anything i can do to fix this please?? I'm not 100% comfortable replacing thermal paste on GPU as it was really expenisve and i dont want to risk damaging it, unless someone can convince me it'll be fine 😅😅. Thanks for any help!!! (Gpu is 2070 msi aero itx)

is your gpu dusty or does it look relatively new or new (doesn't need to be new just look it).

This might be due to your gpu fan not hitting all the spots that its hot on the gpu (get it?). In other words, fan spin, hit heatsink, no hit hot parts though, hot parts keep getting hot and not enough attention from cooling. recommendation, point fan at side, probably can't do this though since it itx case

There's no dust at all, looks pretty much brandnew. Pointing fan is out of question sorry. thanks

Hotspots are typically caused by uneven mounting pressure or thermal paste application on the GPU. Since you aren't comfortable with opening it up, I recommend you watch tutorials on it to familiarize yourself. It's unlikely that you'll break anything by just reapplying thermal paste.

the backplate feels to me hotter than the end of the heatsink? is this normal?

That is normal, since the backplate does not get the same airflow that the heat sink does.

the whole temperature may just be the memory temperature, thats rated up to 110c so thats actually alright

sorry i forgot to mention i've already done this about a month ago and it dropped my temps massively (but only down to what it is now) before it was throttling and the fans kept maxing even more often. thanks though!

if you would need to repaste it i would recommend some of thermal grizzlys products if you want max performance, but if your on a budget then some arctic mx4

right, so could it just be tightning/untightning the mounting screw things?

ight thanks, i'll prob have to repaste and i'm not to fussy on budget because i just want this to work 😅i'll think abt ordering some grizzly then thanks

Possibly. I wouldn't count on it though.

would i need to replase thermal pads as well?

they should stay stuck on. Unless you want to, but if you take it off carefully and put it back on carefully no

I don't think so, but you should still be careful. It does not take much force to fully tighten the screws. Depending on your model of graphics card you might feel a backstop at some point preventing you from going any further, so you should stop there.

wouldn't do it just temporarily, its free performance,  undervolt always as long the chip allows it

In my experience AMD cards respond better to undervolting. And for instance my MSI RTX 3070 has no option to undervolt in Afterburner.

But yeah, if possible undervolting or lowering power limit does not affect performance too much, at least not in negative way.

When I limited power to 85% all the cooling problems go away but when I'm playing games at 4k / anything demanding then it does start to limit performance so I put it back up. Dya think getting a bigger case with more fans could help? If I did would fans on the bottom do owt for the gpu?
