Headphones mic doesnt work but desktop audio plays anyways

GetGoodWifi

i use a headset with a 4 pin 3.5mm head, i use an adapter making it into 2 3 pin 3.5mm ports. This is what my computer case uses, if i play a youtube video, any sound recording software or such will pick up on it. This isnt exclusive to youtube. However nothing will give me audio from my headphones mic. How can i make it so it doesnt pick up desktop audio but does my mic.

Change your recording device from Stereo mix yo your preferred microphone.
You can do this in "Sound Control Panel".

  1. open the run dialog with Windows logo + R.
  2. enter: mmsys.cpl.
  3. press the OK button.

And you're sure its plugged in correctly and the cable works?
Cus now im doubting that, or you have a mute button thats left on?

Also make sure you have plugged the correct plugs in the correct sockets.
Headphone out is usually green. (Or blue on some mobo's)
Microphone input is usually pink.

If this all doesnt work maybe its the cable. Unless its worked before.
