Honeywell PTM7950 vs Kyronaut Extreme in MSI Titan?

Hello there,

 

I wanted to ask for advice regarding pastes listed above.

 

I had to repaste my laptop because RMA messed up the repair and I had to take off the heatsink.

 

Temps are much worse and the difference between some cores are like 77c to 96c (throttling) using Kyronaut Extreme

 

Is Honeywell PTM7950 really that good?

 

Will reverting back to it fix my issues?

I had this same choice with my dGPU.  I went with the 7950. I made some other changes as well so I can’t be sure which was what, but I’d say it’s about 10% quieter over base kryonaut. Price per application was about that as well.

That's a case for re-RMAing it?
Are you sure that you applied the thermal paste correctly? A sudden drop in performance and spike in thermals is a good indication of improper paste application.

Were they similar before you repasted the laptop? I remember my (much cheaper) "gaming" laptop running stupid hot as well because the heatsink capacity just wasn't there.
Have you OC'd the CPU?

It's repasted correctly. Probably 6 times and same result each time.

Oh, okay. Woulda thought that the cooler on that thing is capable of really pulling away the heat, given how dummy thicc it is.

Noise doesn't concern me honestly, it's only the temps I would like to be as stock.

 

Laptop came with bent heat pipes, took 3 weeks to fix, then they didn't bother to make sure parts of the heatsink touch some components, so I had to take off the the heatsink, use K5 Pro for thermal pads and Kyronaut Extreme on CPU and GPU because that's what I had. Did it 6 times because temps make 0 sense, so now I decided to try PTM7950 because that's factory stock and if that doesn't work it's another RMA.

I saw the contact is fine, when taking it off etc, plus it's designed to go flat, there isn't anything anyone can do to not make it go flat (the heatsink).

 

GPU temps are more than fine maxing out at 53C in Heaven 4 max settings 1440p, but CPU in Cinebench R23 doesn't produce scores it did before. Undervolting did absolutely nothing. I can get 33000 in CB23 at stock, but undervolt does nothing, before I could achieve 37000 with undervolt, and I can see in Core Temp that 2-3 cores go to low to mid 90c whilst other cores chill at 77-84c which is what its supposed to be.

That's pretty odd, yeah. It still sounds like uneven pressure from the cooler, but I'll take your word that it's making good contact. Increasing the pressure could help, but also ruin the chip.

Telos imply noise though.  I didn’t have to spin the fans as fast to get decent temps.  It became almost bearable with the stock fans which was a lot, but I would up using a pair of case fans anyway.  The case fans wouldn’t play nice with the board fan controller, but we’re quiet enough I could set them on “as much as I am ever going to want out of my video card” and just leave them there.  This means my gpu averages in the low 40’s
