hi i am trying to create my own vpn server i am doing that by running tailscale but i don't want to have my pc running 24/7 would be a waste of power. i am thinking about buying a Raspberry Pi  or any other thing that can do the same job but is maybe cheaper or is better for what i am trying to do. but i wan't to know wich model to buy ofcorse it needs a ethernet port and if it can run windows that would be grate but if it can't how can i get tailscale on it?

You don't need Windows to create a VPN server. Pi's aren't exactly cheap right now, but a small low power device that can run Linux is enough to set up OpenVPN. Ideally you want a device with an ethernet port that's fast enough for your internet connection speed.

do you have any recomandations but it's not only for vpn i wil prob use it in the future for other projects

What kind of other projects are you thinking about? As long as it's server related, I'd take Linux over Windows any day.

 

Personally, I use an old mini-ITX board with a soldered on Celeron CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and use it e.g. for Pi-hole, backup and other stuff

Sure, but you can probably find better stuff than that now: Biostar J3060NH incl. Intel® Celeron®
