ASRock Phantom Gaming x570 quality?

I've noticed a sudden influx of really cheap (sub-$80US) ASRock x570 Phantom Gaming 4 mobos hitting the market in my local and semi-local area lately.  Conveniently, right when I'm in the market for a new board to pair with my R5 5600 and replace my aging B350 board. (I'm in the middle of a piecemeal upgrade.)

Is there anything to be concerned about with this particular board?  I don't see it specifically mentioned in the tier list, but the "Phantom 4" seems to be landing in the B-Tier.  I'd think that would be fine to support a 5600.

I can't speak for the motherboard specifically, but I've not had any issue with any of my ASRock boards yet (I've used a couple). Also, I've not seen anything that started alarm bells on here or in the news.

 

oh, hang on, do you mean ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4? If your seeing x570 boards at sub $80 that seems a little sus? Or are we talking used? The B550 is commonly available at 80-90$, but the X570 should cost 140-150$.

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

I'm a PhD student working in the fields of reinforcement learning and traffic control. PCs are one of my hobbies and I've built many PCs and performed upgrades on a few laptops (for myself, friends and family). I have built many machines with Asrock boards and never had an issue.

X570 is useless aside from running multi gpu or multi gen4 ssds (equally useless aside from niche stuff like high res vid editing)

 

Should be a pretty ok board though esp at such a low price

Sorry, I meant used. And yeah, it's the x570. I'm finding them cheaper than any b550 locally.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of used motherboards cause they don't have a great lifespan in the first place.

 

Unless you need some feature specific to X570 boards, I'd go for a new ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 instead of a used ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4.
