To clarify before price vs performance arguments takes place, I'm possibly considering an upgrade and in my area (at the moment) I can either get a 6700xt NEW or a 3070 second hand for roughly the same price, give or take $12, so my question is what would you do if both of these cards are the same price, new AMD or second hand Nvidia

Ryzen 5800X3D(Because who doesn't like a phat stack of cache?) GPU - 7700Xt

                                                           X470 Strix f gaming, 32GB Corsair vengeance, WD Blue 500GB NVME-WD Blue2TB HDD, 700watts EVGA Br

~Extra L3 cache is exciting, every time you load up a new game or program you never know what your going to get, will it perform like a 5700x or are we beating the 14900k today? 😅~

Depends on your use case, in non RT Tasks they are quite the same... in RT tasks the 3070 is quite a bit better, but the 8 GB of VRAM with the 3070 can limit you performance in higher resolutions or in future games that just need more than 8 GB of VRAM...

All that matters is what was the 3070 doing before you get it? If it mined crypto then the 6700XT is a no-brainer. If you want VR also the 6700XT is the no-brainer. RT isn;t an argument in this class of GPUs so you decide whether you wanna take the risk. Personally, for that kind of money i'd never consider a 2nd hand GPU.

The 6700xt would be better for VR?

12GB of VRAM vs just 8GB - it's just a given. VR loves to eat VRAM. That's why AMD gave their previous gen GPUs so much VRAM

aah, I wasn't aware, I've never used VR but have some interest once the headsets prices become more reasonable, so AMD it is then

There was a combo pack here at a local dealer with RTX 6750XT Ryzen 5800X3D and HP Reverb G2, specifically made for VR enthusiasts.

Then don't even think on it, 6700XT or if you can find one for nearly the same price 6750XT and you forget about gaming problems for the next 5 years.

Well, Steve from GamersNexus already said which one is the best GPU based on the Xs

And we all know the more Xs we got more better.

What resolution are you playing at, and what do you play?

The 3070 is the better performer, but its really not by a lot. If it were me, I'd opt for the new 6700 XT. Warranty and no risk of it being a mining card. I wouldn't normally care bout cards having been mined on, but people really flogged Ampere cards.
