Posted March 13, 2023 I'm currently in searching to build a cooling solution for my TV stand, I wasn't able to find a way to power a PC fan through USB or an power adapter. I find this topic from a few months back, but I think I want to use a fan hub with a 2-3 PC fans. Does anyone know a solution to power a fan hub excluding using a motherboard? Posted March 13, 2023 You could DIY rewire it to be powered with USB or other plugs, it's pretty simple if you have done this with other kinds of wires. Plenty of guides on youtube too. Occassionaly visits the forum when I have nothing to do at work. Posted March 13, 2023 Author Thank you for the swift replies guys. I know how to solder, just not good of calculate the right resistance needed in the unit I want to build. I was trying to find a more simpler solution, but do you think if I solder a USB cable and the cable from the hub that goes to the fan pins on the mother board will work? Also, most of the PC fans I find work on 12V, and I read that powering it from a 5V USB cable will lower the RPM. Posted March 13, 2023 Author I don't want to burn any electronic I purchase, so I assumed that the resistor needs to be the correct value. Yeah, I found one of those cables, but the distributors in my country doesn't provide much information needed such in this website. Thank you I will try it and see the result.
