Gpu utilization way under CPU utilization

Hey guys, I recently got a Rx6500xt. Before i got it, I had a Gtx 680 ti which did not do that good so i got this card because it was 160$ on amazon and seems good for the price. Im a casual gamer so its not that bad. When i started using the AMD adrenaline app, The gpu utilization was WAY under the cpu. I check my drivers any everything but its all updated. Is this normal? I get more Fps on my 10 year old card than i do on this. Please help!!

this is a classic CPU bottleneck.

your GPU are waiting for your CPU to catch up while it runs at 100% before the GPU can continue working.

Essentially you need a faster CPU. Right now the GPU is starved for data to work on, so it's utilization is low. With a faster CPU, data to work on will arrive at a fast enough rate for the GPU to run at full utilization.

As mentioned in the 2 posts above - CPU bottleneck. That poor i3 is trying its best to catch up, but it's only i3 after all. You should sell it and get a 12600kf. Right now they go for just $200 on many places and it's a simple drop in upgrade.

Depends on the game. I had this same type of CPU bottleneck with Fallout 4 on a 3570K CPU paired with a 1060 6GB.

So your CPU bottleneck does not surprise me, but it will not happen with every game either, and it might be possible to lessen it with a higher resolution but with your CPU that would be a long shot.

Would a i5 tenth gen work? I’m trying to save as much money right now. I see a i5 12th gen on Amazon for 90$ but I don’t want to upgrade my mobo also

I would but I don’t want to spend money on another mobo also

I dont know what happened but after some time, the cpu utilization went down so i put overwatch at ultra settings to see if the gpu can get max utilization and the highest i saw the gpu go was 80%

The funny part is that i have a 60Hrtz moniter and with ultra settings in overwatch, i get 60-61 fps with vsync off

it could have been windows update or something doing stuff in the background... we'll never know,  too little info , but looks things are kinda normal now... still too little info from you, what resolution, settings (ultra really doesn't say much at all especially because you cant put things like vsync on "ultra") target framerate,  etc.

For me i run Overwatch max settings, 1440p, ultra latency, fast sync ,120fps lock,  the gpu hovers around 55%, cpu ~10%, I dont see any issues at all with that (just for reference)

yh  so your target framerate is most likely set to 60, which is the default,  and even then when your already at 80% usage there isnt really much headroom left. So we went from 100% cpu!!!!!  to....  ???

What's not working?  What are your exact settings?  what was your expectation?

That's why i said 12600kf - you don';t need new mobo, you won't even probably need to flash BIOS. Just take the 12100 out, put the 12600 in and turn on. As simple as that.

At a certain point though your gonna still just hit the CPU perf roof eventually if you wanna keep upgrading where OP's just gonna need to bite the bullet on pretty much replacing everything. I'd say the next major upgrade to save up towards if you wanna be efficient is plan out what mobo you will need next that would be an upgrade. And start saving up some type of nut so ya don't just go out there blindsided.

This is pretty much the reason I did tons of research and then pretty much future proofed my build so I wouldn't have to worry about any of this.

I love PC building and gaming.
REMEMBER botttlenecks can happen at all points of a PC part. Make sure you are at equilibrium. For all parts unless you intend to upgrade at a later point. Also QA Tested AAA Games.
