Is it a bad idea to buy this camera?

As a rule of thumb, and due to past experiences, I always buy my stuff new. If I can't afford what I want, I save up or wait until I can afford the next best thing.

 

But the seller has mostly positive feedback, so there's that.

My problem is, I'm an 18 year old high school student and currently only have $330 to spend on a camera and won't have more money for quite a while to dish out. If I don't buy this refurbished one, I don't think there are many other options?

Unless the seller has good feedback, I would never buy refurbished. And even then, I still probably wouldn't buy it.

I have a D3200 and I could NOT be happier, it's just the step up from that camera and about $375 for a refurb one. I bought a T2i from Canon before that, it stopped working after a few shots, even though that's a more expensive camera than the D3200 I take much better photos and the Nikon is MUCH easier to use. It's a great buy if it's anything like the D3200.

As a rule of thumb, and due to past experiences, I always buy used when possible. As long as it's in good condition you can usually get everything for 40-60% of the new price with 0 drawbacks. There is absolutely no reason not to buy used items, although there are a couple of categories that you should of course stay away from, like food, batteries or sextoys.

Yep. I think there's a way to open some kind of claim if you're not satisfied or if the item purchased is defective.

Both. Although I believe when it comes to camera you'll generally get a better deal buying it used. It depends on the market of course, I managed to get my hands on a new 5D Mark II at the same price a used one would cost in Denmark, but that's the only thing I've ever experienced like it. Especially with the more entry level offerings like the D3100 you should be able to find a great used deal.

I wouldn't expect any problems at all. If it had any problem earlier it has been fixed.
