I noticed this on the usb cable of this Logitech farming sim side panel that i seemed to be having some issues with. The issues i originally thought were software related, my axis appear on the control panel and when setting them up but in farming sim some dont work. But i saw this and was wondering if this can affect like resistance or something i dont really know anything about it but it looks like just the black bit is gone. I dont know if it is possible to tell from this photo but anyones help would be appreciated.

it looks like even the shielding is stil intact (not that it's even necessary on USB2.0) so it's not a problem.

for reliability sake though, put some tape over the affected spot so it cant get snagged and damaged further.

The exernal braid cables are more of a shield and judging from the pictures it shouldn't cause any issues.

The question is what happened to the cable to get this damaged and whether that caused any of the internal cables to break which would result in loose or no contact.

from the way the insulation got frayed it looks fairly certain that it's been grinding against something.

pinch type damage would look distinctly different.
