msi b450m vdh-max

that sounds like higher quality MB, (good choice)

D tier MB (which can handle up to 5800x)  unless it's the wifi version, which is even better

and better than DS3H, DS3H is E tier

ok, so i ordered a ryzen 5 (5000 series) and msi motherboard b450 . and after installation and boot. screen remained blank... small led on motherboard indicated problem w/ cpu... researched online to find that this motherboard has known issues. so i order another 1 (gigabyte b450m d3sh wifi)....  forgot to mention.. psu is corsair cx750m.....(750watts) this time after installation, nothing works... cpu fan( not even psu fan)wont spin up... now im confused.. pls help

and mouse does light up when psu is on so there is power

All AM4 motherboards require bios updates before they can use Zen3 CPUs.

so the gigabyte 1 wont even power on ? and how can i update if nothing comes on ?

You should have done your home work. You can either get a motherboard that is able to flash its bios through USB devices without a CPU present, or you should have gotten Zen2 (assuming you didnt get an ancient old stock board from 2018) CPU updated the BIOS then swapped the new CPU in.

There is also flashing the EEPROM directly which requires a programmer.

Yes that is a Zen3 CPU and you still have to flash your BIOS before you can use either of those CPUs on any AM4 motherboard. No AM4 motherboard came with a BIOS that was compatible with Zen3 CPUs.

When i ordered the b550 it came with a ryzen 5000 bios.

What can you do in this situation? Order a ryzen 2600 or anything ryzen cheap or borrow a friends older ryzen cpu.

Or by a new motherboard b550.

Im betting you can find an old ryzen cpu for around £30

you will need a 2600 or 3600 cpu for example to then flash the latest bios that supports a 5000 series processor, it is an easy mistake to make for those who are not aware of these possible problems,  there will have been 1000's of people who found themselves in similar situation.

with a b450 borad you can get lucky but you shouldnt rely on it... even with some b550 boards you need a bios update to get it running with for example a 5600(non-X) or 5800X3D... always buy a board with bios flash back, even some budget boards have it now.

And thats the reason that bios flash back is required by AMD for all AM5 mainboards

Or find nearest brick & mortar shop for PC parts, ask them if they have Zen you need and could they help you update your BIOS for a small fee.

Eh well, the B550 motherboard was released before Zen 3 did.
Some old stock still circulates I guess.

B450... even older.

yes, but shouldn't the newly made motherboards have latest bios?

though I forgot if bios is compatible with older CPUs when it supports the newer ones on Ryzen..

Well, some new B550 maybe.

OP's motherboard is B450 so ... :x

I've no idea as well, don't have older Zen to try with.
Although IIRC i did saw some posts in some other places that some chipset lose older gen support after flashing for Zen 3, can't remember whether that was B450 or what.

I could see why though, it is a different architecture afterall

Or simply running out of space in the BIOS chip. 🤣

makes sense, I don't have such depth knowlege to even know that the BIOS can run out of storage, but I guess perhaps on cheap boards...

Something to read when bored.

Basically it's due to how many CPUs AM4 have to support during their 5 years-no-socket-change promise
