Define laptop like keyboard. Do you mean the layout, size, the feel of clicking? All of these? Something else?

I used a generic Dell keyboard for a good length of time and it feels pretty similar to a laptop keyboard to me. I really enjoyed it. It certainly isn’t a gaming keyboard by any means but it may work for what you want.

Not a single laptop keyboard could match a decent budget mechanical keyboard, as I've experienced it myself.

I'd suggest having her try some mechanical keyboards, see which switch type she likes. Personally, after getting my first mechanical keyboard (a super budget one like RK100), I just can't stand typing on anything else.

Decent budget mechanical keyboards could be found as cheap as $40 w/o discounts.

Typically I would agree with you, however I bought my fiancé a Hyper X keyboard and she hated it because she struggled to type on it with long nails. If you were going to go this route and your wife tends to have longer nails, I would still go for a low profile keyboard even if you get a mechanical keyboard that is lower profile itself.

Hence why I said take her to test it out herself, and how does long fingernails affect typing... How long are those nails...

It’s more of a typing style thing. Some people type with their fingers more curved down (like my fiancé) whereas others type with their fingers straight out. With them straight you’d have to have ridiculously long to interfere with typing but you would be surprised at the length that would make typing a pain with the curved style.

If it wasn’t an issue that was atleast semi common this article wouldn’t exist:

Hello all,

What is the best laptop like keyboard for PC?

My other half has a Dell XPS Laptop and she loves the keyboard on it.

I am looking for similar feeling keyboard for her PC.

Any recommendations?

Logitech MX Keys or Logitech Craft (I am currently typing this message on a Craft, and I just love it!)

Both pinnacle of scissors besides the dell and thinkpad @8tg points out, imho. I wanna buy one but honestly its hard to justify at GK clone pricing and me being very comfortable with cherry profile keycaps.
