Is it just me or is TP Link as a brand severely underrated?

From their Switches, to their CCTV Cameras, to their Wifi Mesh Pods, they seem to get a bad name for some reason

Can anyone spread some light as to why?

I've used netgear, linksys and TP link stuff in my home before, the TP Link stuff has smoked them both, from a price point, to a features point and a quality point

Tp link is popular in most parts. They are not underarated at all.

not in terms of popularity, in terms of actual respect for the equipment they sell. They seem to get bashed around on forums and in the general networking community

It is due to their products Not getting any firmware updates (not even security) but some of the TP link routers can be modded so not the biggest deal But it is not really worth going through when you can get routers with better support for around the same price.

tplink was one of those brands that strived to be the cheapest box on the shelf, and that got them where they are now but with that as their brand recognition.

their equipment is just okay too. usually it uses dated socs and stuff but the build quality is top and the stuff just werks.

They also spew out hardware revisions as soon as anyone cares enough to port openwrt to a product which is annoying.
To the point I just bought tp-link routers and stuffed them in a damn drawer and waited 8 months till openwrt was ported to them

I have had three TP-link switches crap out. All 8 port 1gbe. They last two years tops and then die. I keep going back to them because they are cheap enough and work great for that two years. Like fast food, it does the job well enough, but it's not something that you savour and tell your friends about.
