I have some really important old software but doesn't seem to run smoothly in Windows 7.

I have never tried using XP mode before, but I've managed to look at some videos on youtube and it seems pretty intuitive. There are some outstanding questions.

1. How much memory will windows xp mode take up in a SSD? I'm running a bit low at the moment.

2. File sharing (ie, an spreadsheet); Is there a drag and drop system? How do I access read/write the file when I am not in XP mode?

3. Can I run XP mode on my SSD boot drive, but save files on a separate HHD?

Thanks guys.

Do you mean running XP as virtual machine or using just compatibility mode? Virtual machine thing requires Pro or Ultimate license of Win7. Compatibility mode doesn't always work with software. And if it does, it uses only what software itself uses. If the software you are trying to use is meant for DOS based systems, you could try it with DOSbox (emulator).

Is XP mode still supported?

I don't even think it is any more as they've stopped support for the main operating system.

Yeah, I'm running Win7 Ultimate.

I plan to run it on a virtual machine.  So the concerns your raised regarding compatibility mode is not a conern then?

Thanks.

It will be same as boot to normal winXP afaik. Thats pretty much all I can say about VMs, sadly.
