Control soundbar with TV remote through optical cable

Hi,

 

I was wondering if I can control the volume and auto power on my Samsung HW-A450 soundbar with the TCL 50P615 tv's remote control. 

I have the same question for LG 50UQ80003LB and Samsung UE50TU7022 or the Hisense 50A6BG.

No. Optical does not allow for Data Transmission - it's not part of the standard. It just sends the audio through the Optical cable as a data stream. Volume control is done on the endpoint device (in this case, your soundbar), and the TV and the Soundbar have no way to communicate over Optical.

 

HDMI has the CEC protocol which allows stuff like volume control, etc, from one device to another.
