So im going to start building a once in alifetime (for me) rig, but im unsure if i should wait a few months to see what new tech is in the works or if i should just do it with whats on the market now, itll be a 2011 socket build with 2 or more gpu's.

I guess what im trying to ask is, is there a next gen cpu, mobo or gpu coming thats going to have a significant performance increase as opposed to its current counterpart within the next 3-6 months.

Hopefully that all makes sense....

The 880 is being hyped like crazy, it's supposed to be pretty powerful but it comes out in January.  If you're going to spend a ton of money on 2011, might as well wait for x99.

People are talking about DDR4 a lot but I think the pricing is going to be stupid high for a while.

Go ahead. Austin Evans said something the other day that summed up exactly how I feel about situations like this - "Don't wait. Then when you do, there will be something better being hyped. It always happens, and you will find yourself in this endless chase for the newest and greatest" (paraphrased). Go ahead with 2011, and just be happy. performance increase won't be  that much at the 4 and 6 core levels, and the 8 core will cost at LEAST $1250. As for DDR4, it is essentially just faster more compact DDR3, and nor speed or stupid high memory is necessary for gaming and everyday use. What is your overall budget for the system?

I budget build well. Want to learn? PM me if you want advice.

The z97 motherboards are coming out in just a few days, and new Haswell CPUs, but since they aren't LGA 2011, I doubt that info will be of any use to you.

Whatever you want to spend it's not going to be "once in a life time" rig, with 5k+ I think it can survive for about 5-6 years at best then either it become so obsolete like the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT and Intel Core 2 Duo or it's going to be broken due to it life time run out. So it's better to build one that can goes a little bit further by allow room for upgrade. If your current rig/laptop is unsatisfied then you may as well buy a new one right away, the new CPU wont be that much powerful than the current one and the 800 series wont come out for a long time. I'd suggest just go with the 4770k and a z97 Mobo so later on if somehow the 4770k can disappointed you you can upgrade to the new CPU since z97 support it too. For GPU, at best stay at 2 ways SLI, dont go more than that, the performance wont increase enough more to justified the price paid for another GPU after 2 ways SLI. It's quite easy to build a full high end 2 ways SLI 780Ti with ~5000$ including 3 monitor and all peripherals, so the rest of the money just save it until better stuff comeout, this 5000$ dont satisfied you anymore and upgrade it one part at a time.
