Help please with 4090 wiring

ZOMBIE06

Recently bought a gigabyte 4090 gaming oc edition,

It comes with the 600w connector that goes into 4 pcie connections my power supply is a Corsair RM1000X

so I have 4 pcie connectors that I can connect each one has a connection that goes to power supply then comes off with 2 pcie connectors

So basically I can connect 2 of the pcie connectors to power supply and have 4 pcie connectors to connect to the 600w power supply is it ok for me to do this of do I need to run 4 pcie connection to power supply and connect each one separate to graphics card

Also can I buy a different 600w connector that only has 2 connectors on for a cleaner look or do I have to buy one with 4 connectors on

The RM1000x should have at least 4x separate PCI-E power cables.

Use 4x separate cables; it is NOT recommended to use 2x just so it "looks better."

Rather not kill a RTX 4090 or PSU.

I assume @ZOMBIE06 meant the Corsair 600W PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR Type-4 PSU Power Cable which is designed to provide up to 600W with Corsair PSU's using Type 4 cables. A number of people on the EVGA forums are using them with 4090's without issue. JayzTwoCents has tested it as well and shown it works as intended.

My response was to answer the question presented.

It comes with the 600w connector that goes into 4 pcie connections my power supply is a Corsair RM1000X

My understanding is:

  • The Corsair RM1000x comes included with 4x PCI-E cables
  • Each of those cables have daisy-chain 6+2 pin connections (for a total of 8x PCI-E 6+2 connectors)
  • The RTX 4090 comes with a 4x PCI-E 8-pin to 16-pin 12VHPWR adapter
  • OP is asking can I use 2x of those PCI-E daisy-chain 6+2 cables or should I use 4x separate cables?

My response is, no, it is best to use 4x separate 6+2 pin cables rather than to use 2x daisy-chain 6+2 pin cables.

The adapter came with 4 on it for a reason. I’d use 4 actual cables.
Get a fancy cable for a “cleaner” look.
