Budget (including currency): around 2000€

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: This Pc will be used for photo and video editing...using Adobe Suite right now. So no hardocre gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have no clue about PC building so keep that in mind pls haha a friend of mine that kinda knows a little bit about computers put together a list for me on partpicker and just wanna see what you guys think of it, knowing the budget and all.

Here is the link: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/mcRBnt?__cf_chl_tk=cIsnWz0vpdd4MG7B22hH9zBs.SGR76zEYgdhtGU7idE-1675278134-0-gaNycGzNCpE

Looks like a budget computer to me, but let's see what others say.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Meaning what? that I should up my budget in this case? Oh and what I am also wondering...do I need more ventilation? Case has 2 fans already in it (1 at front and one at the back) so thought one more would be enough....but not sure (added a pic of the case)

Powerful CPU for lower mid range GPU, not too familiar with photo editing stuff but won't a better NVidia GPU help ? And do you need that many cores ?

And you don't need a that beefy cooler on a 7900, something like an Arctic Freezer 34 duo would be fine

Pretty small storage as well

I could suggest an Intel build, cheaper CPU for good all around performance to get a better GPU, yet 100EUR overbudget because only 3080s are worth geting, 3070s make no sense

Like I said, I am a total noob in this field....and yeah the 100€ over budget are fine haha that is why I set a rough budget...but I think the RAM is missing from your list haha....so that would make it even higher

I mean that several of the parts are budget while others are not, resulting in a strange, budget mix when you have a budget to build something more powerful.

Do you have AC? Cooling is ALWAYS a good idea because it decreases heat, which decreases resistance, which decreases watts and increases performance.

@RevGAM nope got no parts at all yet...since I have never even dabbled in PC building...so yeah just got the case already cause it was on sale and I already wanted it while I figured out the rest...so yeah I am really conflicted....oh and about the 1TB storage...he asked if I needed a lot of it and I siad, that I usually end up moving files I don't need anymore to an external storage...so that is why he just chose a 1Tb for the list

I wouldn't pay 800 dollars for the 3080 as that is a huge waste of money. The 4070ti can be had for that price where I live and is much more powerful.

Apologies, was sure to have chosen one !

Then you need a cheaper GPU, a 6800XT is still very good, now you're only 50EUR above budget with a very good rig 🙂

Great ! Then you can pair it with a 13700K, or switch to DDR5 and still be on budget

Yeah DDR5 was my original plan cause faster…but idk what would be better choice for me 🤔

It's faster but not that much, and more importantly it's faster with fast DDR5 6000+ MT/CL36-, which is still quite pricey

Budget DDR5 only give a few % more performance so aren't worth the cost

Ugh...Kingston. One of the companies perpetrating fraud with some of their products. I don't buy from companies like that, even though Kingston was, historically, a great company that I've used many products from in the past.

Oh really? (Obviously since I am not in the space I didn’t hear that) what kinda product fraud? Cause only thing I could think of is low quality for high prices

  1. I think you misunderstood me. I asked about AC - air conditioning in your home. I was also referring to the parts list you submitted. It was a mish-mash of good and not. For $2,100, you should be able to build a fairly high-end system.
  2. In reference to the "files I don't need anymore", what are you talking about? Data? Save games? Photos & videos? I'm talking about the actual games. If you're planning on installing a bunch of games at the same time with 1 TB, you'll have the same problem I did - you'll find yourself limited to fewer than you really want. 😞
  3. What "external storage" do you mean?
  4. A HDD is only going for storing data that you don't need to access much at all because it's slow...but these are cheap and big! A SATA SDD would be a good choice for a secondary or even a faster backup drive, but you'll pay more. Getting an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD is the best option.

[2] edit: and which company would you recommend instead?

  1. Kingston, Adata and PNY have been caught replacing the components on the original release of some of their products after positive reviews from major players with cheaper parts. They do NOT announce this to the public, nor do they update the packaging with the decreased specs. LTT did a video on this.
  2. Samsung, Crucial/Micron, Sabrent, SK Hynix, G-Skill, Corsair, Team Group, Patriot, and a few others. You can find good info on the TOP choices in SSDs and RAM on Tom's Hardware. You don't necessarily have to get one of the TOP ones, as long as what you choose will do a good job for you and will last significantly longer than a HDD or cheaper alternatives.
  • SSD Hint: check how long they'll last before their start to fail. One measurement is the TBW (total bytes written), although some companies will only give hours, months or years. Also pay attention to the read & write speeds and the generation - 4 or better. PCIe 4. Look at this to get an idea of good specs, as this is one of the top SSDs. I have a Sabrent and a Team Group. Of course, always look at the warranty.
  • RAM Hint: look for low CAS Latency (CL), high frequency (MHz), and aim for 16-32GB of RAM. Gen 4 or 5 only. I have Patriot. If you'd like to see what I got for $2,100, let me know (still using an OLD Dell VGA monitor). This article on TH should help.

Don't waste your time on RGB - you can always decorate your case later if that appeals to you. Paint, stickers, RB strips, etc. whatever you like.

Thank you so much for this detailed reply! First of all: no we don’t have AC in our house since it is less common in Germany to have it. So just normal Windows for Air flow 😂

Second: With „files I don’t need“ I mean that since this PC is for editing videos and photoshop I will have the files for a project on my computer and once the project is finished I’ll move it to an external SSD for storage….that is basically how I have operated using my laptop for editing (since I have never owned a PC). So yeah thought that was a good plan to save some bucks 😂 might be wrong though. (I probably am) so yeah not really planning on gaming….maybe Minecraft and Lift off (drone simulator) will find their place on it but not much more 😂 #ps4forlife!

and lastly: thanks for all the advice on the RAM and SSDs I’ll check them out for sure! Really appreciate the detailed help!

edit: is this a good ram? Went with your suggestion on patriot and this one would be on sale…idk if CL36 is good and if 5600Mhz is also good 😅

That still way more worth than the 3080. Why someone would buy a 3080 at this point is beyond me.

Idk but for me it’s a cost thing….yeah maybe the new gen is better (although I have heard some people say, that for now 40 gen is overpriced) but I can’t fit that in my budget for now….so the 3080 is a valid choice since it was a really good GPU and would still be an upgrade to my original part on the list

Putting your old data on another SSD is a great idea!

From what I've seen others say about DDR5 RAM, it is. But please give us a link to that one.

Go for ddr5 5200c28 or 5600c30/28. Prefferably 6000c32 for hynix a die rather than m die (capable of 8000+ so itll ride out the entire ddr5 gen)

If you arent buying hynix m/a die dont even bother with ddr5, performance gains negligable and stupid expensive yet not futureproof cause other ics are meh (samsung 16gbit b die) to hot garbage (micron a die)

Intel currently has best value but dead end platform

Amd is expensive but very efficient (especially benificial if you are in an area with ludicrous power bills) and likely gonna use am5 for a few more years, dont even need a high end board to utilize am5 futureproofing since any decent midranger like the b650 pg lightning, gaming x, etc. Will be fine
