I'm conflicted myself. My current monitor is power hungry and needs replacing, it's 24" with a 1920x1200 res. Been looking at various monitors and see the generic Korean ones that are 27" with a 2560x1440 res while the established brands are usually 1920x1080 for around the same price. Those tend to have more options for connectivity, though.

Decisions, decisions..

Depends on the rest of the specs?

Let's assume both are using the same panel type, usually PLS for the generic Korean ones since Samsung panels, but as @SAV1OUR pointed out, if you need to get a hold of customer service for RMAs ect, you could have issues.

Well, sub 400$ is cheap for branded1440p IPS, and its only to get cheaper.

Every Acer product I've ever tried in my lifetime was complete crap, old experiences with a brand make it hard to open myself up to them no matter how impressive the spec.

(I'll be fair and check reviews on this model, though)

There is the option of buying nothing which is what I have done. I just went out again tonight and spent time looking at tvs at Leon's and while I saw something good there I still didn't find exactly what I wanted. If it doesn't feel right then don't buy something.

In regards to Korean monitors I finally said no to that idea. I don't like having a sketchy warranty situation and the idea of shipping it back oh my gosh. I also could not get an answer as to what the rate would be for duty or whatever that I'd pay having it shipped into the country so that made things even worse. I'd rather wait than deal with Korea.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Windows has terrible scaling support for high resolution displays (although windows 8.1 is a lot better than win7). So I would go for the lower resolution display.

You don't have to scale 1440p, it's usable full scale.

I tought Samsung was korean lol

But it depends on picture quality and reviews. On the other hand i dont feel any need for a single monitor to support more than 1080p.
